Caption: Einstein and Curie (right). Portrait of the German-Swiss-US physicist Albert Einstein (1879-1955) with the Polish-French physicist Marie Curie (1867-1934). Einstein is famed for his mass-energy equation and his theories on relativity that rewrote our ideas of gravity, space and time. He won the 1921 Nobel Prize for Physics. Curie's work on radioactivity won her this honour in 1903, and also the 1911 Nobel Prize for Chemistry for her discovery of the radioactive elements polonium and radium.
