Caption: Particle physicists, from left: Niels Henrik David Bohr (1885-1962), Danish physicist; Hideki Yukawa (1907-1981), Japanese physicist; Mrs. Yukawa; Julius Robert Oppenheimer (1904-1967), US physicist. Bohr was awarded the Nobel prize for physics in 1922 for his investigation of the structure of atoms. Yukawa was awarded the Nobel prize for physics in 1949 for his prediction of the existance of mesons, elementary sub-atomic particles. Oppenheimer led the US team that developed the atom bomb at Los Alamos.
