Caption: Atlas. Statue of the Titan god Atlas, who in Greek mythology was forced to carry the heavens and the Earth on his shoulders. This punishment was given to Atlas by Zeus for fighting the gods of Mount Olympus. Atlas is said to have been turned to stone by Perseus using the head of Medusa where the Atlas Mountains now stand in north Africa. This sculpture by Bruno d'Arcevia is in Arona, Italy.
