Caption: Aratus Cilis, astronomer. This woodcut was made by Albrecht Durer in 1515. Aratus (310-240 Century BC) was born in Soli in Cilicia and was a Macedonian astronomer and poet. His principal work was the Phaenomen, composed of 1,154 hexameters. The first section of this book describes the movements of planets and stars. The second section describes weather signs and their significance. Taken from The Complete Woodcuts of Albrecht Durer by Dr Willi Kurth (1936)
