Caption: Anders Angstrom (1814-1874), Swedish physicist. Angstrom founded the science of spectroscopy, and the unit of atomic length, the angstrom, is named after him. He also studied the Sun and the aurora borealis. He was awarded the Rumford Medal of the Royal Society in 1872.
