Caption: Abram Isaakovich Alikhanov (1904-1970), Soviet nuclear physicist. Alikhanov's most famous work was in 1949, when he and his team created the first Soviet heavy water nuclear reactor. He received numerous awards, including three Orders of Lenin, three USSR State Awards, and Hero of Socialist Labour. Alikhanov was a member of both the Soviet and Armenian Academy of Sciences. Photographed in 1960, in Russia.
