Caption: Abel Aganbegyan (born 1932), Soviet economist and mathematician, writing on a blackboard. Aganbegyan, of Armenian descent, worked at the Academy of the National Economy (Moscow) and was a director of the Novosibirsk Institute of Economics. Aganbegyan was elected a Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences. He was one of the chief economic advisors to Mikhail Gorbachev during the Soviet Union's perestroika reforms in the 1980s. Photographed in Novosibirsk, Russia, in 1967.
