Caption: Herman Russell Branson (1914-1995), US physicist and biochemist. Branson received his PhD in physics in 1939 from the University of Cincinnati. Branson's research interests were in mathematical biology and protein structure. He produced more than 100 research and other articles on physics, biophysics, Black American colleges, and science education. He was co-discoverer of the alpha helix protein structure. He was also associated with the introduction of information theory in the study of biological molecules.
