Caption: Felix Bloch (1905-1983), Swiss-US physicist and Nobel laureate. Bloch was educated in Switzerland and worked in Germany and the USA. Bloch shared the 1952 Nobel Prize for Physics with Edward Mills Purcell. The share of the Nobel was awarded for Bloch's development of new methods of measuring nuclear magnetism. This led to the development of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, and later to the medical technique of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
