Caption: Percy Williams Bridgman (1882-1961, right), US physicist and Nobel laureate, with an unidentified colleague, working in his laboratory on one of the high-pressure experiments for which he won his Nobel Prize. Bridgman was educated at, and worked at, Harvard University. Bridgman was awarded the 1946 Nobel Prize for Physics. The Nobel was awarded for Bridgman's invention of an apparatus to produce extremely high pressures, and his subsequent work in high-pressure physics. He committed suicide in 1961, after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.
