Caption: Janos Bolyai (1802-1860), Hungarian mathematician. Â Bolyai worked on non-Euclidean geometry, publishing a ground-breaking appendix on the subject in 1832. More than 20,000 pages of his manuscripts and other works are kept in a library in what is now Romania. He also worked on complex numbers, and spoke more than nine languages. A crater on the Moon was named in his honour. This artwork dates from 1850.
