Caption: Leonid Brekhovskikh (1917-2005), Soviet oceanographer, giving a lecture. Brekhovskikh's major work was on the study of acoustic waves underwater, work that allowed improved study of the oceans and the seabed. He was a Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences and Chairman of its Oceanographic Commission. Brekhovskikh was also Editor-in-chief of the journal Oceanology. His awards included three Orders of Lenin and Hero of Socialist Labour. Photographed in 1985, in Moscow, Russia.
