Caption: Hawley Crippen. Portrait of Hawley Harvey Crippen (1862-1910), American murderer and the first criminal to be caught by use of radio. Having killed his wife in London, Crippen escaped with his lover by sea on the SS Montrose to Canada. Recognised by the ship's captain, who radioed to Scotland Yard in London, a detective was sent by a faster ship and arrested them when they arrived at Montreal. Crippen was convicted of the crime and hanged.
