Caption: Francois Chaussier (1746-1828), French doctor and balloon pioneer. Chaussier conducted some of the first experiments to develop navigational systems for balloons. The French writing describes him as a professor of the medical faculty and member of the Institute. This is a lithograph by Ducarme, based on an artwork by the artist Hippolyte Louis Garnier (1802-1855). The lithograph was published by Blaisot between 1800 and 1850, and is now part of the Tissandier Collection.
