Caption: Samuel Clegg (1781-1861), British inventor showing his gasometer storage tank to members of the Royal Society. Clegg served his apprenticeship under James Watt. After leaving Watts he invented a gas meter, a gasometer and a machine that used lime to purify coal gas. Engraving from "Grands Hommes et Grands Faits de l'Industrie" (1880).
