Caption: Steven Chu (b. 1948), American physicist. Chu shared the 1997 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on developing methods to cool and trap atoms with lasers. His subsequent research has combined physics and molecular cell biology, studying biological systems on a molecular level. Chu is also the director of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, where he has set up a collaboration with industry to develop new technologies to combat climate change.
