Caption: Paul Dirac. Portrait of the British theoretical physicist Paul Adrien Maurice Dirac (1902-1984). Dirac was a major contributor to the theory of quantum mechanics. His general theory of 1926 was followed, in 1928, by a relativistic theory of quantum mechanics that explained electron spin. He used his theory to predict the existence of antiparticles such as the positron, which was observed in 1932. Dirac and Schrodinger shared the 1933 Nobel Prize for Physics. Photographed in 1962 at Yeshiva University, New York, USA.
