Caption: Pandanus palm (Pandanus tectorius) or screwpine laden with fruit, silhouetted on a beach. The pandanus can grow to 8 metres in height, and its long pointed leaves up to 2 metres in length. It is an economically important plant, its leaves being woven or plaited into mats, sails and thatch. The palms roots are eaten and used as medicine, and its fruit is a major source of food to communities on atolls. Photographed on Lankayan island, Malaysia.
