Caption: Spinifex grass. When blown by the wind this type of spinifex grass draws circles in the sand with the tips of its spiny leaves. There are more than 20 types of grasses in Australia that are popularly called spinifex or porcupine grass. Most form tussocks and have deep roots and spiny leaves to help conserve water in the arid environment of Australia's interior.
