Caption: Derek Howse (1919-1998), British science historian and naval officer. Howse was a naval officer who rose to the rank of Commander, serving in the Second World War. His career as a science historian began on his retirement when he joined the Museum Service and became an expert on the history of the Royal Greenwich Observatory and its equipment. Photograph published in 1983 in the Journal of the British Astronomical Association (volume 93).
