Caption: Dr Jonathan Hill, Australian geneticist, in his laboratory at Texas A&M University, USA, in 1999. Hill cloned the first calf from cells taken from an adult male in 1999. It took 189 attempts to clone Second Chance from a 21 year old Brahman bull called Chance. On the monitor in the background is a cow oocyte (round) used during the cloning procedure. Hill was at Texas A&M University completing a PhD, after working in general practice as a veterinarian for 14 years in New South Wales, Australia.
