Caption: Professor Hiroshi Kikuchi, Japanese mathematician and atmospheric physicist at Nihon University. Kikuchi has studied electrical phenomena in the atmosphere - such as lightning and tornados - which are connected with electrohydronamics (EHD). The portrait was taken in August 1991, when Kikuchi visited England during his investigations into crop formations. Kikuchi was investigating whether these mysterious patterns of flattened plants in fields of wheat, barley and other crops might be caused by a phenomenon related to EHD. Crop formations started occurring frequently in the mid-1980s in south-west England.
