Caption: Pelageya Yakovlevna Polubarinova-Kochina (1899- 1999), Russian mathematician and scientist. Polubarinova-Kochina worked on the mathematics of hydrodynamics (fluid mechanics). She worked at Moscow University, then at the University of Novosibirsk, where she founded the Siberian branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences, of which she was a member. Her awards included the Stalin Prize (1946) and being made a Hero of Socialist Labor (1969). The latter award included the award of the Order of Lenin. Photographed in 1989, in Moscow, Russia.
