Caption: Semen Lavochkin (1900-1960), Russian aviation and missile designer. The head of the Soviet OKB-301 bureau, Lavochkin helped build thousands of fighters during the Second World War. After the war his bureau developed the Burya intercontinental cruise missile, which was never mass-produced due to the superiority of the new ballistic missile alternatives.
