The inscription describes him as a "Teacher of the Mathematicks", and shows him with an armillary sphere (lower centre). Some of his books are seen, including Astronomy (1727); A Treatise of Eclipses of the Sun and the Moon... (second edition, 1731); and Uranoscopia, or the Contemplation of the Heavens... (1735).
