Caption: Donald Lynden-Bell (born 1935), British astrophysicist. Lynden-Bell has worked on theories of galactic structure, including the role of quasars and black holes. As of 2007, he works on galactic jets and general relativity. He is Professor of Astrophysics at the University of Cambridge (since 1972), and has been President of the Royal Astronomical Society (1985-1987). He has been awarded the Royal Astronomical Society's Eddington Medal (1984) and its Gold Medal (1993), as well as the Bruce Gold Medal of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific (1998). An asteroid has been named in his honour.
