Caption: Pyotr Nikolaevich Lebedev (1866-1912), Russian physicist. Lebedev studied in Strasbourg, before taking up a position at Moscow University in 1891. In Moscow he carried out a famous experiment to measure the pressure of light. This was an important confirmation of Maxwell's theory of electromagnetism. The Lebedev Physical Institute in Moscow is named after him, as is a crater on the Moon. Photographed on 1 September 1904.
