Lebedev is best known as the inventor of a method of making synthetic rubber, helping the Soviet Union to have the largest synthetic rubber industry in the world by 1940. He also developed synthetic motor oils. He was a Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Photographed in 1924, in Russia.
