Caption: Jean Paul Marat (1743-1793), Swiss-born French politician, journalist and doctor. Marat's scientific ideas were demolished by Lavoisier, who Marat ensured was killed during the Revolution. He devoted himself to radical journalism during the French revolution, supporting the Jacobin cause or radical reform. He was murdered in the bath by Charlotte Corday, a member of the Girondins, whom he helped to overthrow. Painted by Jacques-Louis David a leading painter of the time.
