Caption: Jacques Lucien Monod (1910-1976), French microbiologist, biochemist and Nobel laureate. Monod shared the 1965 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine with Francois Jacob and Andre Lwoff. The share of the Nobel was awarded for Monod's discoveries in genetics, in particular the lac operon group of genes in the E. coli bacterium.
