Caption: Wolf Grigorevich Messing (1899-1974), German psychic. Messing, born to a Jewish family in Germany, fled to the USSR before World War II. His claims of psychic abilities came to the attention of Stalin. This led to the most famous story about Messing, that he managed to reach Stalin, walking past armed guards surrounding Stalin's house, by broadcasting the suggestion that he was Beria, the head of the secret police. Photographed in 1965, in Russia.
