Caption: Hubert Anson Newton (1830-1896), US astronomer and mathematician. Newton studied mathematics at Yale University, USA, later becoming a professor and chairman of the mathematics department. He worked chiefly on meteors and is best known for calculating the length (thirty-three years) of the Leonid meteor shower cycle. In 1833 he successfully predicted its next peak.
