Caption: Rudolf Nebel (1894-1978), German rocket pioneer, holding a model space station in 1955. Neber was a member of Germany's influential amateur rocket group, the VfR, in the 1930s. He worked alongside, amongst others, Hermann Oberth. He rejected the use of rockets in warfare, choosing not to work under Werner von Braun in the development of the Nazi V2 rocket. After World War II his encouragement and public lectures led to the recommencement of German rocket research.
