Caption: Francois de la Peyronie. Portrait of Francois de la Peyronie (1678-1747), French surgeon to King Louis XV. He is best known for describing in 1743 the condition that became known as Peyronie's disease. This is a disorder of the penis in which there is thickening of part of the sheath of fibrous connective tissue. This causes the penis to bend on erection making intercourse difficult and painful.
