Caption: Eugene Peligot. Portrait of Eugene Peligot, French chemist (1811-90). He rose to the position of professor of analytical chemistry and glass-making at the Central School of Arts and Manufacturing in Paris. In 1841 he was the first chemist to isolate the metal uranium. He was also the Director of assay at the Paris Mint.
