Caption: Jean Pecquet (1622-1674), French anatomist. Pecquet initially studied classics, before graduating in medicine in 1652. He conducted various anatomical experiments, including one on a dog during which he discovered the thoracic duct, the major efferent lymph duct into which lymph drains from the peripheral lymph nodes. Pecquet's experiments gave great support to William Harvey's theories on the circulation of the blood.
