Caption: Bryan Patterson (1909-1979) was an English paleontologist who spent most of his career studying fossil mammals, although he became an expert on on the Phororhacidae, an extinct family of South American birds. Bryan also served in WWII, but was captured by the German forces; after two unsuccessful escape attempts, he remained a prisoner until the end of the war.
