Caption: American scientist Dr Edward C. Stone, Project Scientist for the Voyager spacecraft mission to Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus & Neptune. Stone is professor of physics at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). The photograph was taken at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California, in August 1981. Voyager 1 & Voyager 2 were launched from the Kennedy Space Center on September 5 & August 20, 1977, respectively. Both craft flew past Jupiter & Saturn. Voyager 1 then headed out of the Solar System while Voyager 2 went on to encounter Uranus (in January 1986) & Neptune (August 1989).
