Caption: Arthur Scherbius (1878-1929), German electrical engineer and inventor, in the 1920s, of the Enigma machine. This device was used by the Germans in World War II to encrypt their messages. The code was eventually broken by the mathematician Alan Turing, who designed the Bombe machine to decode the messages.
