Caption: Emilio Gino Segre (1905-1989), Italian physicist, as a young boy. Segre studied physics at the University of Rome. From 1942-1946 he worked on the Manhattan Project in the USA, helping to produce the first atomic bomb. After World War II he was appointed as professor of physics at the University of California. His main research interests were in atomic and nuclear physics. He shared the 1959 Nobel Prize for Physics with Owen Chamberlain, for the discovery of the antiproton.Restrictions:
