Caption: Kai Manne Borje Siegbahn (born 1918), Swedish physicist. Kai Siegbahn was born and educated in Sweden, and graduated in 1944. He was head of the Physics Department at Uppsala University from 1954. Kai Siegbahn received half of the 1981 Nobel Prize for Physics for his work on the development of high-resolution electron spectroscopy. The work allowed detailed chemical analysis of materials from the binding energies of electrons emitted by the materials. Kai Siegbahn's father, Karl Manne Georg Siegbahn, won the 1924 Nobel Prize for Physics.
