Caption: Robert Wilson (1914-2000), American particle physicist. Wilson was employed by the US War Department as part of the theory team in the Manhattan Project, the development of the first atomic bomb. Working with some of the best physicists of the age, Wilson spent three years at the Los Alamos Laboratory in New Mexico making endless calculations on the design of the first bomb. The bomb, code name ITrinity, was detonated near Los Alamos on 16 July 1945.
