Caption: Charles Thomson Rees Wilson (1869-1959), Scottish physicist. Widely known as C.T.R. Wilson, he was born in Scotland, moving to Manchester, England, at the age of four. While at Cambridge University, he abandoned medicine for the physical sciences of chemistry and physics. He is most famous for his development of the cloud chamber as a means of tracking charged particles such as electrons. The Wilson cloud chamber was fully developed by 1923, and this work won Wilson a share of the 1927 Nobel Prize for Physics. Photographed at the Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge, England, in June 1934.
