Caption: Klaus Winters (born 1930), German particle physicist, next to the CHARM particle detector at CERN (the European particle physics laboratory), near Geneva, Switzerland. Winter studied physics at the University of Hamburg and gained his PhD from the Sorbonne. He joined CERN in 1959, where from the mid-1960s he mainly studied neutrinos. The CHARM particle detector was built to analyse neutrino-electron scattering. Photographed in 1978.
