Caption: Samuel Whitbread, British meteorologist. Samuel Charles Whitbread was the grandson of the English brewing entrepreneur Samuel Whitbread. Whitbread was a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and in 1850 founded the British Meteorological Society (later renamed as the Royal Meteorological Society in 1883). He was the first president of this society and held this position from 1850 to 1853, and then again in 1864.
