Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Physics experiment. Schoolchildren using an air track apparatus to investigate the laws of motion. The air track allows objects to slide on a cushion of air, reducing friction and allowing easier investigation of principles such as conservation of momentum and Newton's Laws of Motion. The air track is across bottom, and an apparatus is mounted on it at lower left. The rubber band allows elastic collisions in which momentum is conserved. The 'sail' on the apparatus is designed to pass through the sensing apparatus (centre left, connected to the handheld device at right) and trigger a timing device.
