Caption: High speed flash (1/50,000th of a second) of transverse waves produced by a droplet of water penetrating the surface of a liquid, displacing the water to form a miniature crater (seen here), the walls of which then collapse, pushing the original droplet & displaced water back into the air as a column of water. As this column collapses under its own weight, individual droplets break away.
