Caption: Microscope footage of a micro-needle being used to inject a sperm cell into an egg cell, during in vitro fertilisation. This technique is called intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), and is used when the sperm is immobile or the egg hard to penetrate. The egg cell is then placed in culture and checked later for signs of success. If the fertilisation has succeeded, the egg can be implanted into the uterus.
