Caption: Animation of blood cells moving through a small capillary. The most common blood cell in the body is the red blood cell (erythrocyte). It carries oxygen from the lungs to body tissues and exchanges it for carbon dioxide which is taken back to the lungs for exhalation. A few white blood cells are also seen (larger, dark central nucleus). These are part of the immune system, helping to destroy invading organisms.
