Caption: The seldom-observed Protohydra extends itself many times. This relative of the Hydra is so rare many scientists have never observed one directly. It is an aggressive predator and has been observed ingesting prey five times larger than itself. Recorded under Nomarkski DIC illumination with a horizontal field of view of approximately 1,000 microns.
